About Me

Melissa's Bio 
Melissa is the co-author of How to Make a Living as a Writer  and she's published three novels and a children's picture book. She’s also co-founder and writer for Pen and Parent. In addition, she’s been published online at The OregonianThe Pennyhoarder, Rage Against the Minivan, Momastery, Yahoo Voices, and Red Tricycle. Her print articles have appeared in Salient and You Need Not Walk Alone Magazine. She’s also written and produced short film scripts and plays.
The following subjects are her areas of expertise: parenting, relationships, food, travel, writing, film/t.v. and frugal living. In addition, she’s worked with nonprofit and small business clients to create compelling blogs, web content and other collateral sales content.

She's completed Yahoo Academy courses in SEO, grammar, punctuation and other web writing topics. She was a theatre major at Northern Arizona University and did a semester abroad at Victoria University in New Zealand where she studied English Literature. She's also taken courses in how to run non-profits at The Center for Nonprofit Management in Los Angeles. 

Prior to self-employment, she was employed as an administrative assistant and project coordinator in nonprofits and large corporations.
